A year can change a lot of things. For better, for worse – it changes. Looking back, you become all the more aware of seasons and the changes that come with them. From where I am now and where I was this time last year – there are major differences! I’ve been through multiple seasons since then. There was a season of goodbyes, a season of uncertainty for my future, a season of letting go, and now, a season of moving forward.
Have you ever looked back and wished that things were the same way they had been some time ago? That maybe certain people would still be in your life, that certain relationships would have remained strong. Have you ever wished to go back to those times where everything was right with the world. (Or at the very least had the appearance of being right so as to deceive yourself that it is).
But no amount of wishing will change what has come to pass. And even as much as sometimes we want to go back to that time, when we look and see the beauty that God is bringing out of the ashes, and how perfectly he orchestrates everything, how could we think of trading these lessons, hard as it is.
Change can be painful, but what comes out of the pain, is such a gift and a blessing. I don’t want to miss out on what God is doing NOW because I’m looking at what WAS and what I think should BE. He alone knows what is right and true and for that, I trust in Him to complete that work.
I’ve learned that Important things to remember are :
- Don’t try to cover up your past or remove it from memory. There’s a reason you lived through it. Look back, but don’t live in it.
- It is sad when people you know become people you knew. The friendships that existed there had a purpose and because of them, you are who you are today. No matter where we go in life, we always take a bit of each other everywhere.
- It is hard when what was once said to be forever becomes forever ago, but you must keep moving forward and believe that God has something greater ahead of you. However, you won’t see that if you continue to look back at what was.
When change comes, embrace it. Don’t miss out an opportunity to fully experience a different kind of wonderful.
I know that God has great plans for the future. He has promised that.
It’s time to move forward and not look back.
Trusting in HIS goodness, (He is forever faithful!)
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
