No Beloved, I Have a Better Idea: Learning to Dream With God – Guest Post by Natalie Haines

nobeloved3From the middle of 2008 to the middle of 2012 I had the privilege of babysitting for an amazing family. For four years in between traveling I spent my days loving a little boy named TJ and a little girl, Eliana. It was my job first and foremost to take care of them, keep them safe, and teach them to be kind and loving individuals while their parents were away, but my favorite part of my job was dreaming up creative ways to have fun and make memories.

Often I would ask Eliana and TJ what they wanted to do that day with something new and adventurous already in mind. They would get excited and express their desire to do things we had done in the past such as go to Wild Water Kingdom or smear colored pudding all over each other in the back yard. I would smile and say, “Well, we can… But I have another idea I think you’ll like much better!”

I realized the way Eliana and TJ responded to me was the same way we often respond to Papa God. Many times our dreams are of things we have already done or heard of someone doing and God says to us, “Well, we can… But I have another idea you’ll like much better!”

God is creative. He loves to make new things and make old things new! He’s adventurous, wild, and daring. He has passed these characteristics to us, His kids, by making us in His image (Genesis 1:26) and then prophesying over us that we will do even greater things than what Jesus did while he was on the Earth! (John 14:12).

Many times when we dream dreams and ask The Lord if we can do them with Him He says ‘no’. This ‘no’ isn’t because He doesn’t trust us or want our dream to come true, it’s simply because He has something in mind we will like much better. People often quote Proverbs 13:12 which says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick.”

Many stop dreaming and hoping for things to happen because they don’t want to be disappointed. Could it be that your dream didn’t happen simply so God can position you for something you’ll like much better?

Can I share a secret with you?

Put your hope in The Lord. Love Him and watch what happens. As you delight yourself in Him, respond to His lead, and trust Him with everything you have He will give you all the desires of your he

You were made unique in the heart of God. The dreams on your heart are the dreams in His that He has trusted you with. Sit with Him and find out the dreams in His heart that He has been anxiously awaiting to accomplish with your help. Then, watch yourself come alive in the most beautiful way. These dreams are probably nothing you have ever seen before and possibly the craziest thing you could ever imagine, because they’re not your dreams they’re God’s dreams.rt. He will even give you the unspoken desires you never knew you had. Trust that He knows your heart well. Believe that He will put together desires, gifts, and prophetic words to make your dream come true.

natalieNatalie Haines keeps her story short:

“Jesus pursued me by loving me, I fell in love with Him, and never looked back.”
